WJLA/ABC7: “Some DC Commissioners taking military up on offer to help clean up neighborhoods”
“Commissioner Anthony Thomas-Davis said he wants to get the commissioners in his Columbia Heights neighborhood on board. ‘In this small window, with the guard saying maybe we can help,” Davis said. “I think it's worth saying that. Let's turn this into a positive.’ David said he has requested repairs and clean-ups at the civic plaza for years, and other agencies have not stepped up to make the necessary fixes. ‘If [the guardsman is saying], I’m putting my life on hold to come and do something that I didn't ask to do, but I want to find the upside of it, I think we as district residents should at least hear them out,’ Davis said. ‘Because at some point we need things to improve, and I hope this is a wakeup call for the district to say, how do we marshal our resources better?’”
